Blogger Introduction: Gabi Twombly

ASCIT

Hi everyone! My name is Gabi Twombly, but most of my friends call me Twombly. I’m a senior in Fleming house studying computer science with a minor in information and data science (IDS). I’m originally from South Florida, so I appreciate the nice weather we also get in Pasadena.

At Caltech, I’ve engaged in a number of activities including research, internships, athletics, clubs, and volunteering. I did a SURF my first year here studying non-traditionally funded startups and continued into industry the following summers, completing two internships in data science and software engineering. I am a member of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the Caltech Latino Association for Engineers and Scientists, Student Investment Fund (SIF), and other fun clubs like cheese club. I played for the Caltech Women’s volleyball team all four years here despite my first year being disrupted by the pandemic. It can be difficult at times to balance athletics and academics, but I like to think we get really good at time management. I volunteer a lot through the Caltech Y and our student government on campus. Whether it is pulling out invasive plant species or tutoring young students in STEM, there are plenty of ways to engage with the Pasadena community.

My biggest role on campus in the past few years has been through student government. I served as the ASCIT President, or student body president, this past year, and previously served as the undergraduate Academics and Research Committee chair. Whether it is organizing conferences, running student events, or advising on school policy, I’ve really enjoyed working with my fellow students to improve the community for everyone here at Caltech.

In my free time, I love to explore LA (which you’ll be able to hear about in my blogs) and spend time with friends.

Hope you enjoy learning more about Caltech!

  • Hi! My name is Gabriella Twombly. I graduated in 2024, and I was in Fleming House studying computer science with a minor in information and data science (IDS). I’m originally from South Florida so I’m glad Southern California is also warm. I also served as student body president (ASCIT), was a member of the women’s volleyball team, and was a member of affinity groups like the Society of Women Engineers. In my free time, I love to explore different areas of LA, volunteer with the Caltech Y, try new food, read novels, and play Overcooked 2.
