I love Hozier. Hozier is awesome. I used to listen to “Take Me to Church” on loop when I was young (I still do by the way). I presented this song for an English class in high school. I don’t know guys… I just miiiight really love Hozier… do you think it’s obvious???

Hozier is an Irish singer-songwriter whose deep voice croons right into the hearts of many. If you pay attention to the Billboard Hot 100 chart, you will know that his hit single “Too Sweet” rose to #1 in late April. He deserves to be #1 regardless of whatever song he releases. I love Hozier.

In fact, I love him so much that I went to his concert at the Kia Forum in September!!!

You see, he is one of the artists who I would go insane over seeing live. So when I found out that he would be performing in LA at the Kia Forum in late September, I was ELATED that I would be arriving back on Caltech’s campus the exact same day he was slated to perform his final show in LA: September 20th, 2024. My friend (who is also a fellow Caltech Admissions blogger!), Chi, and I bought our tickets in spring term in anticipation of seeing our Irish king perform.

This is one of the perks of being a Caltech student in Pasadena: you don’t have to live directly in the middle of the busy, bustling city, but you live just close enough to see some pretty amazing artists, both big and small, perform! Before seeing Hozier, I saw: the 2023 LA Genshin Impact orchestral concert, YOASOBI, and glass beach. You’re never more than an hour away (thanks, LA traffic) from a performance that will surely knock you off your feet. And knock me off my feet Hozier did!

I actually almost cried when he sang “Take Me to Church” live. Like, I almost fainted where I was standing. When the man picked up the lesbian flag that was given to him from the crowd off the ground and draped it in front of the drums, I actually got so dizzy. He is an icon. He is legendary. I have never met a more angelic, amazing, siren-like artist. Thank you California Institute of Technology for being a 30-minute drive away from the Kia Forum. Thank you FCC (“First-Year Caltech Connectors”, aka your friendly neighborhood undergraduate orientation peer leaders) program for getting me back on campus in time to see this man perform live.

I screamed so loud when he took the pride flags into his hands. He is so cool. I went absolutely insane. It was very worth it.

I love Hozier.
